FESTIVALS

Frozen Harbor Music Festival

Baltimore, MD

Kavoossi performed at this multi-venue festival on multiple years. Notably, the band was part of the 2016 Frozen Harbor lineup, listed among the ~160 acts that year, which took place on stages around Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Kavoossi was also included in the 2019 Frozen Harbor artist announcements and was scheduled for the 2020 installment (appearing on the "LocalEcho Ice Stage" in February 2020). These appearances placed Kavoossi alongside many regional bands in the winter festival's rock/reggae lineup.

The Nextival

Crownsville, MD – 2017

Kavoossi was featured at The Nextival 2017, an Annapolis-area music and food truck festival held at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds. On July 8, 2017, "Pressing Strings / Kavoossi" co-headlined one of the festival days. This event, billed as "Maryland's Largest Food Truck Music Festival," gave Kavoossi exposure to local audiences in a festival setting.

Let's Go! Music Festival

Crownsville, MD

Kavoossi & The Typos have performed at the Let's Go! Music Festival in Anne Arundel County. This is a rock-oriented weekend festival held at the county fairgrounds. The Let's Go! Fest launched in 2021; Kavoossi's appearance was likely on the local-stage lineup in an early year of the festival, which features national headliners and regional acts.

Eastport-a-Rockin'

Annapolis, MD

Kavoossi has played at Eastport-a-Rockin', Annapolis's long-running local music festival. In the 23rd annual Eastport-a-Rockin' (June 22, 2019), Kavoossi & The Typos were slated for a main stage set in the afternoon, performing from 3:10–4:00pm among a lineup of other Annapolis-area favorites. Eastport-a-Rockin' is known as "Annapolis' Home-Grown Local Music Festival," and Kavoossi's inclusion highlights their role in the local scene.

"Play a Song" AMFM Benefit Festival

Eastport, MD – 2021

In October 2021, Charles Kavoossi (as "Kavoossi") performed at the Play A Song festival held at the Eastport Democratic Club in Annapolis. This one-day festival was a fundraiser for the Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians (AMFM) in memory of local musician Sean Hetrick. Kavoossi was one of six top local acts on the bill, alongside Pressing Strings, Skribe, Timmie Metz Band, and others.

SeaWitch Festival

Rehoboth Beach, DE

Kavoossi has brought their music to Delaware's popular SeaWitch Halloween Festival. In 2021 Charles Kavoossi played an acoustic set as part of SeaWitch weekend events downtown. The full band, Kavoossi & The Typos, returned in 2022 – they were billed at the Rehoboth Ale House On The Mile during the SeaWitch Festival entertainment schedule (sharing the bill with reggae/rock band Bumpin Uglies). The SeaWitch Festival is a family-friendly Halloween-themed festival in coastal Delaware.

Rockaway Beach Festival

UK

In an international appearance, Kavoossi played at the Rockaway Beach music festival in England. This festival is an indoor winter indie music weekend held at Butlin's Bognor Regis (UK). Kavoossi's set took place in the afternoon on one of the festival stages. This overseas festival slot indicates the band ventured beyond the Mid-Atlantic, reaching a UK audience.

Tides & Tunes Summer Concert Series

Annapolis, MD

Kavoossi and its members have been involved in various regional events such as the Tides & Tunes Summer Concert Series in Annapolis (a weekly waterfront concert series). For example, in summer 2021 Kavoossi & The Typos were the featured band on July 29 at the Annapolis Maritime Museum's Tides & Tunes series. Charles Kavoossi's versatility (performing solo acoustic, or with the full band) has led to festival gigs ranging from songwriter showcases to full rock festival sets.

RADIO

WTMD 89.7 FM

Baltimore, MD

The Baltimore-area NPR/Adult-Alternative station WTMD has been a significant supporter of Kavoossi's music. WTMD not only gave the band airplay but also recognized Kavoossi in its year-end lists. In 2016, WTMD DJ Galler included Kavoossi's song "Trip and Fall" in his Top 10 Songs of 2016 (it ranked #10 on his list). Two years later, Kavoossi's "First Best Friend" earned a spot at #60 on WTMD's listener-voted "Top 89 Songs of 2018" countdown, placing the band among national acts in that year-end ranking. Moreover, WTMD's 15th-anniversary "Top 897 Songs of the Past 15 Years" special (aired in 2018) included "Trip and Fall" by Kavoossi at #459, underlining the song's enduring popularity on the station. WTMD also invited Kavoossi to perform at station-sponsored events. For instance, the band opened for The Greenberry Woods' album release show hosted by WTMD in December 2018.

WRNR 103.1 FM

Annapolis/Baltimore, MD

The former WRNR (an independent adult-alternative station serving Annapolis and Baltimore) also supported Kavoossi's music. WRNR was a sponsor of local concerts that Kavoossi played – for example, the station sponsored the Tides & Tunes summer series where Kavoossi & The Typos headlined a night. While specific spin data isn't published, Kavoossi's style of 90s-influenced indie rock fit well with WRNR's format, and their involvement in WRNR-backed events suggests the band received airtime or at least promotional mentions on 103.1 FM.

Community and College Stations

Various

Kavoossi's music has reached various other radio outlets, especially on college and community radio. For example, WLOY 1620 AM (Baltimore, Loyola University) and WMUC 88.1 FM (University of Maryland) are known to spin local artists; Kavoossi, being an active Maryland band, has had songs played on such stations' local music hours. Additionally, WERA 96.7 FM (Arlington, VA's community station) and WTJU 91.1 FM (Charlottesville) have online playlists that occasionally include regional indie-rock. Closer to home, Ocean 98 (WOCM 98.1 FM) in Ocean City, MD – an independent rock station – has showcased Maryland artists, and Kavoossi's upbeat rock tunes would not be out of place there during regional music spotlights.

PRESS

UpStArt Annapolis

"WAVES – Chuck of All Trades" (Profile, Spring 2025)

The Annapolis arts magazine UpStArt ran a full feature profile of Charles Kavoossi in its Spring 2025 issue. Titled "Chuck of All Trades," this in-depth article (by Rahsaan "Wordslave" Eldridge) chronicles Kavoossi's multifaceted career in music and beyond. It discusses his background (growing up in Bowie, MD with an Iranian percussionist father), his talents in songwriting and audio/visual production, and his reputation in the local music community. The piece highlights Kavoossi's journey – from early bands and a stint as a chef, to going full-time with music – and emphasizes his versatility ("master of everything he does") and supportive presence in the Annapolis/Baltimore scene. With quotes from fellow musicians (e.g. Joey Harkum, Jimmie's Chicken Shack members) attesting to his skills, UpStArt's profile paints Kavoossi as a central figure in the area's music culture.

Surf Rhythm (Medium)

"Local Waves Episode Four: Charles Kavoossi" (Interview, 2015)

An earlier feature on Kavoossi was a Q&A-style interview conducted by Henry Pazaryna, originally published July 7, 2015 on SurfRhythm.com (and later archived on Medium). In "Local Waves Episode Four: Charles Kavoossi," the interviewer delves into Kavoossi's experiences as a local musician. Charles discusses his musical beginnings (forming punk/rock bands like Common Addiction and Think in the early 2000s), his growth in the Annapolis/Baltimore music circuits, and the evolution of his sound. He also talks about leaving Maryland for a time (Boston and Portland) and returning home to pursue music full-time, including hosting open-mics and performing solo acoustic gigs. This article provides a candid look at Kavoossi's path and was one of the first substantial write-ups focused on him as an artist.

What's Up? Annapolis Magazine

Event Spotlights

What's Up? Media, a regional lifestyle magazine, has featured Kavoossi in its music and events section. They have published event previews for concerts and showcases involving Kavoossi. For instance, a concert listing for March 10, 2023 at Cult Classic Brewing Company profiled both The Grilled Lincolns and Kavoossi & The Typos, describing Kavoossi's sound as "an energetic homage to the days of rock and roll when melody and harmony ruled the airwaves…repainting the picture of what it means to be a modern day Indie-Rock artist." What's Up? also covered a "Songwriter Showcase" in November 2021 that included Kavoossi, and the magazine's online calendar has highlighted Kavoossi's live shows (often with background on the band's 90s-rock influences).

Eye On Annapolis

Local Music Coverage

The Annapolis-area news site Eye On Annapolis has mentioned Kavoossi in event-related articles. For example, a 2021 news brief on the "Songs of Summer" AMFM fundraiser listed Charles Kavoossi among the featured performers in an all-star local lineup. Similarly, press releases for the "In the Vane of…" charity concert series at Rams Head on Stage frequently include Kavoossi's name: he has been a recurring participant in these tribute shows organized by AMFM (covering artists like The Pretenders, The Cars, etc.). While these pieces are not profiles, they show that Kavoossi is regularly recognized in local press as a notable musician on the Annapolis scene.

Kavoossi's reach has extended to blogs and podcasts. The "People Are Strange" podcast did an interview with Charles Kavoossi (Episode 13) in which he talked about his music and even his high school "Battle of the Bands" history.
